So many sweet things have happened in the last couple of months and I have been way too lame to write about them. So I'm going to make a list of the things that I'm not going to write about because I've been to lame.

Doing signage for WhiteSpace06 and having it hung from the rafters at the conference in Sun River. 10' by 5' posters hanging from the ceiling. Awesome.
Playing chess with Bill Sheffler from Pixar and Erik Falat from Likeminds. Bill was a tricky guy, telling me great moves but always having an alternate that was even better. Erik was drunk and the party was dying down but he finished the game (and won). If only I had found cards...

But there are more crappy teachers there who just dont get it. It being anything. Am I venting? Yes I am.

Here’s a question for Physics buffs: If a car was traveling at light speed (299,792,458 m/s) and hit a leaf that wasn’t moving, would the car disintegrate or would the leaf? Slogan Generator

Here's something awesome you should try. "The Advertising Slogan Generator" generates an advertising slogan (most are pre-existing, others I haven't heard before). The funniest part is to put your name in and hit the "sloganize" button just once. After the third or fourth time it tends to loose it's magic. Here was my first one. Strange.

Unknown Band

I heard this band playing outside my apartment complex. I arrived with my camera during the last few songs so I only was able to take a few quick pictures. Beautiful trees but it was so overcast that the light was scarce. Especially over their faces. Not sure what the name of the band was but they were pretty good. More pictures here.

Orofino Lumberjack Days

I went back home to Orofino, ID for the Lumberjack Fairdays (Sept15-18) and it was quite an experience. Also I managed to get up to Kamiah to watch the Lewis and Clark Exhibit. More pictures of my adventure home here.

Political Truth

I've always assumed I was Republican just because most of Idaho was. Interestingly enough I'm not. This test from OKCupid! told me that I am socially liberal (66% permissive) and economically liberal (25% permissive). I am best described as a Democrat and "exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness.

Whew! What an awesome time this adventure was. We had a whirlwind tour of London, Brussels and Amsterdam for two weeks. Definitely would have loved to stay longer in Europe but my plants would have died if I didn't come home soon. This particular picture was taken in Holland. More pictures.

Fyrn Campaign: These photos were shot with makeshift lighting and a Minolta Dimage 7. These were shot for a photography class during my Winter quarter of 2004. Fashion photography has always been one of my passions and I had just bought these super hot Diesel shoes. Because Diesel has quite a different advertising style than I wanted to shoot, I used Fyrn as a fictional sub-store of Diesel. This gave me the opportunity to shoot the shoes with a darker style than they're normally portrayed but still keep the original Diesel tag line of "For Successful Living.".

Promotional material for WANKEN:

This project started with a concept of an old school letter in a glass bottle. WANKEN is a young group of riders who started their own northwestern clothing/design company. WANKEN’s current project is called “Design the World: Inspirational Minds Live Lives” and we wanted a fun way to announce the current line of shirts. We used Nalgene (with permission of course) bottles with a WANKEN sticker on the front. Inside was a letter written in one of the designer’s messy handwriting. We then looped a thick rope through the wheel of a small finger bike and tied it around the rolled up letter. The letter reads:

“wanken.company is at sea.

early on a january morning they boarded a ship on its way out of the land of clutter. they were searching for a place where the skies were full of productive ideas. a place where bad advertising and get rich quick didn’t exist. wanken searched yonder to find a little village with no rush hour. they found a place with a lot of dirt and a pond nearby. luckily, wanken had remembered to bring their bikes.

this story needed to be told but this is our last piece of paper and drinking bottle. we need them back. please bring it to 4066 canyon creek road, orofino, id.

Obscura: The Cosmopolitan of Digital Photography

One of my strengths in design is composition. This particular composition is for a magazine assignment in my Publication Design class. This particular magazine idea has been developing for some time. I studied Camera Obscura in high school and became quite interested in it. The word itself has stuck with me. Obscura (my magazine) is the cosmopolitan of digital photography. Published quarterly and available only by subscription, it has individual sections for Nature (Landscape & Wildlife), People (special sections within for Portrait, Sport & Wedding), Fashion, and Photo Illustration & Digital Art (including quarterly assignments to be submitted for contests). There will also be a Gear section including updated reports on Canon/ Nikon SLRs, Lighting/Studio Techniques, and Post-Processing info. Each edition will feature a special section on City, Still Life & Abstract; Black & White; or Macro. Also each edition will have a section dedicated to one of the many talented peoples in the photography world. This edition features the work of fabulous Richard Avedon (portrait and fashion).

Obscura defined by www.kfki.hu/~arthp/database/glossary/glossary.html as being:
"Ancestor of the photographic camera. The Latin name means "dark chamber," and the earliest versions, dating to antiquity, consisted of small darkened rooms with light admitted through a single tiny hole. The result was that an inverted image of the outside scene was cast on the opposite wall, which was usually whitened. For centuries the technique was used for viewing eclipses of the Sun without endangering the eyes and, by the 16th century, as an aid to drawing; the subject was posed outside and the image reflected on a piece of drawing paper for the artist to trace.”
